Can you get Hepatitis from water?
Yes. HAV can be found in contaminated food and water.
Is there a vaccine for HAV?
Yes. There is a vaccine to protect against both HAV and HBV.
Is there specific treatment for HAV?
No. However, most people recover within 6 months.
About Hepatitis C (HCV)
Can you get Hepatitis from getting a tattoo or piercing?
Yes. You can reduce the chances of getting HCV by seeking out a professional artist and ensuring they use a new needle, new ink and new medical grade jewellery.
Is there specific treatment for HAV?
No. However, most people recover within 6 months.
About Hepatitis B (HBV)
Can you get HBV from sex?
Yes. HBV is found in both blood and sexual fluids.
Is there a vaccine for HBV?
Yes. There is a vaccine to protect against both HAV and HBV.
Is there treatment available for chronic HBV?
Yes. However, only a portion of people with HBV will require treatment.

About Hepatitis C (HCV)
Can you get Hepatitis from getting a tattoo or piercing?
Yes. HCV lives in blood, so if someone who has HCV used those items, you could be exposed to the virus if you used the same razor or nail clippers.
Can you die from HCV?
Yes. HCV damages the liver and can lead to death if left untreated.
Is there treatment for HCV?
Yes. Treatment cures over 95% of people with HCV.
Is there a vaccine for HCV?
No. No one is immune to HCV, even if you have had it before.
Is the cost of treatment covered?
Yes, for most people. Public health insurance plans or private insurance should cover the cost of treatment.

Please note that although we try to always have someone in the office, we are sometimes out in the community delivering workshops and unable to have someone there. It’s always a good idea to call ahead before stopping in to make sure someone will be in.
